Screw Conveyor

A screw conveyor(also called an auger conveyor)is a mechanical device that uses a rotating helical screw blade—known as flighting—inside a trough or tube to move granular,powdery,or semi-solid bulk materials efficiently over short distances.It is one of the oldest and most widely used conveying systems in bulk material handling,dating back to the Archimedes'screw for water lifting.

1.Basic Components

Trough/Tube:A U-shaped trough or closed tube housing the screw;often sealed for dust-free operation.

Screw Flighting:Helical blades(solid,ribbon,or shaftless)welded to a central shaft(or shaftless).

2.Working Principle

When the screw rotates,material is prevented from spinning with the blade by its own weight and friction against the trough wall.The helical flighting pushes the material axially along the trough—similar to a nut moving along a rotating bolt.

Flow rate:Proportional to screw speed;used as a variable-rate feeder in many processes.

Orientation:Operates horizontally,at inclines(up to~45°),or vertically(special design).
