Spray Tower

A Spray Tower,also known as a spray column or spray chamber,is a fundamental gas-liquid contactor widely used in industrial processes for gas purification,dust removal,gas absorption,and flue gas cooling.As a core equipment in environmental protection and industrial production systems,it achieves mass and heat transfer between a continuous gas phase(which may contain dispersed solid particles)and a dispersed liquid phase,effectively removing pollutants and ensuring compliance with strict environmental emission standards across various industries.

Structurally,the Spray Tower features a simple yet robust design,mainly consisting of a cylindrical or rectangular tower body,a spray system,a demister,a circulating water tank,and an air inlet/outlet.The tower body is typically made of corrosion-resistant materials such as PP,FRP,stainless steel,or carbon steel with anti-corrosion lining,adapting to different working environments involving acidic or alkaline gases.The spray system,composed of nozzles,pipelines,and circulating pumps,atomizes the liquid(usually water or chemical reagents)into fine droplets with a diameter of 500–1000μm,maximizing the contact area between gas and liquid.The demister is installed at the top to intercept entrained liquid droplets,preventing secondary pollution.

The working principle of the Spray Tower is based on efficient gas-liquid contact,with three common flow configurations:countercurrent,cocurrent,and crosscurrent.In the most widely used countercurrent flow,contaminated gas enters from the bottom of the tower and moves upward,while the atomized liquid is sprayed downward from one or more levels,allowing full contact between gas and liquid.Pollutants in the gas are captured,absorbed,or neutralized by the liquid droplets through inertial collision,contact retention,and chemical reactions.The purified gas is discharged from the top after passing through the demister,while the used liquid flows into the circulating tank for recycling or further treatment.

This equipment boasts distinct advantages,including simple structure,low investment cost,small gas pressure drop,and easy operation and maintenance,with no risk of clogging compared to packed towers.It exhibits strong adaptability,capable of handling various pollutants such as acid gases(SO₂,HCl),alkaline gases(NH₃),particulate matter,and odorous substances,with a purification efficiency of 85%–90%depending on the type of pollutant and equipment configuration.Its gas velocity is controlled at 0.3–1.2 m/s to avoid excessive droplets being carried out of the tower.

Widely applied in chemical plants,electroplating factories,power stations,waste incineration plants,metallurgical enterprises,and food processing industries,the Spray Tower plays a crucial role in environmental protection and production process optimization.It not only effectively controls air pollution,protects the working environment and human health but also realizes energy conservation and emission reduction.As a cost-effective and reliable industrial equipment,it has become an indispensable part of modern gas treatment systems.
